SYSTEM NAME:

SYSTEM LOCATION:

Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC 29905-5001 and Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA 92140-5001.

CATEGORIES OF INDIVIDUALS COVERED BY THE SYSTEM:

All Marine Corps personnel assigned to the drill instructor military occupational specialty.

CATEGORIES OF RECORDS IN THE SYSTEM:

All data required in the processing and training of drill instructors and execution of drill instructor duties.

AUTHORITY FOR MAINTENANCE OF THE SYSTEM:

10 U.S.C. 5031 and E.O. 9397 (SSN).

PURPOSE(S):

To provide a record of training and quality of performance of Marine Corps personnel assigned as drill instructors.

ROUTINE USES OF RECORDS MAINTAINED IN THE SYSTEM, INCLUDING CATEGORIES OF USERS AND THE PURPOSES OF SUCH USES:

In addition to those disclosures generally permitted under 5 U.S.C. 552a(b) of the Privacy Act, these records or information contained therein may specifically be disclosed outside the DoD as a routine use pursuant to 5 U.S.C. 552a(b)(3) as follows:

The 'Blanket Routine Uses' set forth at the beginning of the Marine Corps’ compilation of systems of records notices apply to this system.

POLICIES AND PRACTICES FOR STORING, RETRIEVING, ACCESSING, RETAINING, AND DISPOSING OF RECORDS IN THE SYSTEM:


STORAGE:

The files are stored in file folders.

RETRIEVABILITY:

Records are maintained in areas accessible only to authorized personnel during normal working hours. After normal working hours, rooms are locked and the area is patrolled by military police.

SAFEGUARDS:

Records are maintained in areas accessible only to authorized personnel only during normal working hours, rooms are locked and the area is patrolled by military police.

RETENTION AND DISPOSAL:

The files are stored for two years after completion of drill instructor duties and then destroyed.

Information is obtained from instructors, units and civilians that were involved with training, evaluating and processing drill instructors.
